To delete a Pinterest account, open Settings, choose Account management and follow the account deletion prompts. Then check the email address linked to the account to confirm the request. In the app, the option may be labeled “Delete your data and account.” Choose deactivation instead if you want a reversible break.
Before you start, make sure you are signed into the account you actually want to remove. People who manage personal and business profiles can easily switch into the wrong one. Check the username, profile picture and linked email first.
Deletion and deactivation do different jobs
Deletion is the permanent option. Deactivation hides the account while leaving you a way to return later. Removing the Pinterest app from your phone does neither; the account can remain available through a browser or another device.
Pinterest’s official account closure page currently says that permanent deletion happens after seven days. Many older tutorials refer to fourteen days, so follow the period shown by Pinterest during your request. If you are uncertain about losing your boards, choose a temporary pause while you decide. If the account brings visitors to a website, review how Pinterest supports a blog's traffic before removing the profile and its links.
Think about what you want to accomplish. If you only dislike notifications, changing notification preferences might solve the problem. If you want a profile to stop appearing publicly, deactivation may be enough. If you want to leave the service permanently, use the deletion process and complete every confirmation.
Prepare before closing the account
- Check whether you need to keep original images, links or notes from important boards.
- Confirm that you can receive messages at the linked email address.
- Review any business responsibilities before removing an account used by a team.
- Write down the account’s username so you can check its public profile later.
- Make sure you know which sign-in method belongs to this account.
A board is a collection of saved ideas, not necessarily a backup of the original content. If a saved link is important to a project, record the actual website address separately. Do not assume that a board screenshot will preserve documents or files hosted elsewhere.
Delete Pinterest from a computer
- Sign in to Pinterest in your browser.
- Open the account menu and select Settings.
- Choose Account management.
- Select Delete account.
- Read the explanation and complete the prompts.
- Open the email account associated with Pinterest and complete the confirmation.
Do not stop after merely selecting the deletion option. A confirmation email may be part of completing the request. Read the final screen and keep a private record of the confirmation if you need one. Avoid putting account passwords or confirmation links into a public note.
Delete Pinterest in the phone app
- Open Pinterest and select your profile picture.
- Open your account settings. The control can differ between personal and business accounts.
- Go to Account management.
- Scroll to Delete your data and account, or the equivalent deletion option.
- Follow the prompts and complete the email confirmation.
If the layout does not match an older tutorial, look for the account management label rather than tapping a similar-looking option at random. You can also use the browser method. Updating an app may change menu placement, but it should not require giving a third-party service your Pinterest password.
How to deactivate instead
Use the same Account management area, but choose Deactivate account. Read the confirmation carefully so that you do not select permanent deletion by mistake. This is a better starting point if you simply want time away from the service.
After deactivation, check the public profile while signed out. Pinterest warns that logging in can reactivate a deactivated account, so do not sign in just to test whether it disappeared. You can type the profile address in a separate browser session instead.
If your goal is freeing a particular username or email address for another account, address that separately before deactivating. Do not assume hiding a profile releases its account details automatically.
What to do if the confirmation email does not arrive
First check which email address is linked to the account. Then inspect spam and junk folders. Search for Pinterest messages rather than relying only on the main inbox. A mailbox filter or forwarding rule can put the email somewhere unexpected.
If you cannot access that mailbox, work through Pinterest’s account recovery or support process. Repeatedly requesting deletion from different accounts can make the situation more confusing. Keep a note of which account and address you used so that a support request is specific.
Do not pay an unrelated website to “force delete” the account. A service that asks for your password adds a new account-security problem without resolving the original one.
Business accounts need an extra check
If the profile belongs to a business, review billing and advertising before closing it. Account deletion is not a substitute for checking outstanding obligations. Ask whoever manages the business’s advertising and records to confirm that nothing important depends on the account.
Also check public links on your website, email signature and other social profiles. If they point to a page you are removing, update them so visitors do not keep following an old account link. This small cleanup often matters more than deleting the app from every device.
Frequently asked questions
Does uninstalling Pinterest delete my account?
No. Uninstalling removes the app from that device. Use account settings to deactivate or request deletion of the account itself.
Can I recover an account after requesting deletion?
There may be a limited cancellation period. Follow the current official instructions and the notice displayed during your request. Do not rely on an older tutorial’s timing when the live service gives a different period.
Can I keep some boards while deleting the account?
Deletion concerns the account as a whole. If you want to keep using certain boards, consider whether selective cleanup or deactivation better fits your goal. Save important original links before proceeding.
How can I check that my profile is no longer public?
Visit its public address while signed out. Avoid logging into a deactivated account merely to check it, because doing so can reactivate it. Search engine results may take time to reflect changes.
