TL;DR: Apple has announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 and a new iMac with M6. The MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 ($1,899 with education pricing) with a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU, up to 24 hours of battery, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The iMac starts at $1,499 for a 10-core CPU/10-core GPU model and $1,699 for 12-core/12-core, in seven colors. Pre-orders for both open today, October 28, in 35 countries and regions, and they arrive starting Friday, November 6.

Apple refreshed two of its core Macs on October 27, 2026, moving both to its new M6 chip. Neither machine gets a redesign; the story is speed, on-device AI and connectivity, paired with macOS 27 and Apple’s new Siri AI. Below are the confirmed prices, specs, release dates and what Apple claims about the M6 MacBook Pro and iMac, plus who should actually think about upgrading.

14-inch MacBook Pro with M6

According to Apple’s MacBook Pro press release, M6 brings a 12-core CPU that Apple says includes “the world’s fastest CPU core.” Apple’s other performance claims, all measured by Apple against the previous M5 model:

  • Up to 30% faster graphics from the 12-core GPU.
  • Up to 25% faster AI workloads.
  • Versus an M1 MacBook Pro: up to 11x faster graphics and up to 13x faster AI performance.

The rest of the package is familiar: the Liquid Retina XDR display with an optional nano-texture finish, a 12MP Center Stage camera, a six-speaker sound system and a wide range of ports. Apple adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 and rates battery life at up to 24 hours. Apple pitches it at “college students, business users, creators, and more,” and says the extra Neural Accelerators in the GPU help with running large language models locally.

Earlier reports had suggested a touchscreen MacBook Pro could arrive at this event (see our October preview). Apple’s announcement of the 14-inch M6 model doesn’t list a touchscreen among its features.

iMac with M6

Apple’s iMac announcement keeps the thin 24-inch design and seven colors but moves to M6 with up to a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, two more cores each than before. Apple’s claims compared with the M4 iMac:

  • Up to 1.5x faster in apps like Microsoft Excel.
  • Up to 2x faster graphics, including ray-traced gaming.
  • Up to 5x faster on-device AI prompt processing in LM Studio.
  • Up to 2x faster SSD reads and writes, and memory bandwidth up to 170GB/s.

Apple also says Intel iMac owners will see up to 18x faster performance than the most popular Intel-based iMac. The 12-core model adds 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, four Thunderbolt 4 ports, Touch ID as standard and the nano-texture display option. Both iMac models support up to two 6K external displays, and the base model comes with a color-matched keyboard and mouse or trackpad.

macOS 27 and Siri AI

Both Macs ship with macOS 27 and lean on Apple Intelligence, including Siri AI, the new conversational version of Siri. Apple says Siri AI can search across messages, email and photos, take action in apps and answer questions about anything on screen. Read the fine print: Apple’s footnotes say Siri AI is in beta in macOS 27.2, works in a limited set of languages, and that some server-based features have daily usage limits, with “expanded access” to come “for a fee in the future.”

Pricing and release date

  1. Pre-orders: today, October 28, on apple.com and in the Apple Store app in 35 countries and regions, including the U.S.
  2. In stores and deliveries: Friday, November 6.
  3. MacBook Pro: from $1,999, or $1,899 with education savings.
  4. iMac: from $1,499 (10-core) or $1,699 (12-core); education pricing $1,449 and $1,599.
  5. Leasing: Apple Upgrade, a U.S. leasing program run with Klarna, lists the iMac from $28.99 a month over 36 months.

Should you upgrade?

Apple’s own comparisons give a clue. The largest gains it quotes are against M1 and Intel machines, not M4 or M5. If you’re on an Intel iMac or an M1-era MacBook Pro, this is the kind of jump that’s easy to feel. If you bought an M5 MacBook Pro or M4 iMac recently, Apple’s claimed 25-30% (MacBook Pro) or 1.5-2x (iMac) gains are real but probably not worth replacing a working machine. Independent reviews and benchmarks should land closer to November 6, so it’s worth waiting for those before ordering a high-end configuration.

Apple’s fall hardware wave also included the OLED iPad mini, which ships the same day. For context on the event itself, see our earlier report on Apple’s late-October launch plans.
