TL;DR: The GTA 6 map is Leonida, Rockstar’s fictional take on Florida, and it has six officially named regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Rockstar has not published a full map or an exact size, but Rockstar North’s Aaron Garbut told Game Informer it is about twice the size of GTA 5’s map. Square-mile figures you see online are estimates or come from leaks. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

With Grand Theft Auto VI just over two weeks away, the most common pre-launch question after price is the GTA 6 map: how big is it, what regions are in it and is there an official map yet? Here is everything Rockstar has confirmed, what developers have said, and which popular claims are still unverified.

Where is the GTA 6 map set?

GTA 6 takes place in the fictional US state of Leonida, Rockstar’s version of Florida. Its main city is Vice City, the Miami-inspired setting that first appeared in 2002’s GTA: Vice City. Rockstar’s official GTA VI site describes Vice City as “the darkest side of the sunniest place in America,” and includes a “Visit Leonida” section with a page for each region.

The two playable leads are Lucia and Jason. Rockstar’s character bio places Jason “in the Keys” working for local drug runners, which ties the story to the island chain south of the mainland.

The six GTA 6 map regions

Rockstar’s site names six regions, and Game Informer’s September 29 cover story described them as Leonida’s primary areas, according to Forbes’ summary. The real-world comparisons in the third column are widely drawn by fans and press from trailers and screenshots, not statements from Rockstar.

How big is the GTA 6 map?

Rockstar has not published an official size in square miles or kilometers, and it has never done so for its earlier games either. What exists are developer comparisons and outside estimates:

Treat the ratios as approximate. Size also is not the whole story: press coverage of the Game Informer feature stresses that Leonida is denser, with more interiors and activities than earlier Rockstar worlds.

What is on the GTA 6 map

According to Forbes’ rundown of the Game Informer cover story, Leonida will feature:

  • More than 170 animal species, including over 60 types of birds and over 30 land mammals, plus fish and reptiles. Manatees, flamingos, pelicans and alligators are among those named. Wildlife is grouped into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary categories.
  • Localized, persistent weather, including hurricanes with heavy clouds, strong winds and heavy rain. Rockstar has not said how often storms hit or whether they affect missions.
  • A new wind system that moves hair, rooftop debris and water in the swamps.
  • Activities such as base jumping, scuba diving, kayaking, airboats, jet skis, street and off-road racing, billiards, gyms, zoos and mini golf.

Polygon also notes that water plays a big role, with boats, other watercraft and diving shown in Rockstar’s extended look at the game.

Is there an official GTA 6 map?

Not a full, labeled one. As of early November, Rockstar has released region names, short region tours on its website and trailer footage, but no to-scale map. Interactive maps on fan sites are reconstructions from trailers, screenshots and sometimes leaked material. They can be fun to explore, but none are confirmed by Rockstar.

How to separate fact from rumor

  1. Check the source. Rockstar’s site, trailers and official interviews are confirmed. Everything else is analysis.
  2. Be careful with exact numbers. Any square-mile figure is someone’s math.
  3. Watch for leak-based claims. Material from the 2022 leak shows an old development build and may not match the final game.
  4. Wait for launch week. The full map will be visible in-game from November 19.

Bottom line

The GTA 6 map is Leonida: six regions spanning a big city, an island chain, wetlands, a coastal strip, farm country and a national park. Rockstar says it is roughly twice the size of GTA 5’s map but has not given an exact area, and there is no official full map yet. Expect plenty of fan maps over the next two weeks, and expect the real answer on November 19.
