To pin a Snapchat conversation on an iPhone, swipe right to Chat, press and hold a friend or group, open Chat Settings and select Pin Conversation. This keeps that conversation near the top of your Chat screen. Snapchat’s support documentation currently describes ordinary conversation pinning as an iOS feature.
People use “pin someone” to describe several different Snapchat actions. Pinning a conversation, pinning a Snapchat+ best friend and saving a message are separate features. Choosing the correct one avoids paying for a subscription or changing a friendship setting when you only wanted an easier way to open a chat.
What a pinned conversation does
A chat pin is an organizational shortcut. It keeps a selected conversation at the top of your Chat screen even when other friends send new messages. It does not send a new Snap, add someone as a friend or write anything inside the conversation.
According to Snapchat’s conversation-pinning instructions, you can pin up to three conversations. Those can include group conversations. The other person is not notified when you pin their conversation. Before paying for an extra pinning feature, review what Snapchat Plus includes and check whether the standard chat controls already meet your needs.
Think about which chats you actually need to open repeatedly. A family group, a close friend and a project conversation may be useful choices. Pinning everything is not the purpose of the feature, and the limited number encourages keeping the top of the screen manageable.
Pin a friend or group on iPhone
1. Open Snapchat and go to the Camera screen.
2. Swipe right to open Chat, or tap the Chat tab if that is how you normally navigate.
3. Find the friend or group conversation you want to pin.
4. Press and hold the conversation until its options appear.
5. Open Chat Settings. Some layouts may group chat and notification controls together.
6. Tap Pin Conversation.
7. Return to Chat and check that the conversation appears in the pinned area.
Press on the conversation in the chat list rather than on an individual message inside it. A message menu can contain different actions, including saving or replying. If you see the wrong menu, close it and start again from the Chat screen.
If the friend does not already appear in your list, use Snapchat’s search to find the right person and open the conversation. Check the username carefully if several contacts share the same display name. You want the shortcut to lead to the intended person, not merely a familiar-looking name.
Unpin someone without removing the friendship
To unpin, go back to Chat, press and hold the pinned conversation, open Chat Settings and choose Unpin Conversation. The conversation can then move according to the normal chat list rather than occupying a pinned position.
Unpinning is useful when a temporary group has finished its purpose. For example, you might pin a travel-planning group before a trip, then replace it with another active conversation afterward. You do not need to delete the group or remove its members to reorganize your own screen.
After unpinning, search for the conversation if it moves lower than expected. Losing its fixed position is not evidence that the friend blocked you, the conversation was deleted or the account disappeared. Check the chat directly before drawing conclusions from its position.
Why Android may not show Pin Conversation
Snapchat’s official help page says standard conversation pinning is available on iOS for now. If you use Android and do not see the option, the missing control may be a platform limitation rather than a broken account.
Keep the official app updated, but do not install a modified Snapchat app to unlock a missing pin button. A tutorial filmed on an iPhone cannot establish that its exact controls exist on an Android device. Be especially cautious of instructions that ask for account credentials outside Snapchat.
You can still use ordinary search and the available navigation tools to find a frequent contact. Work within the controls present in your app rather than repeatedly clearing data in pursuit of an unsupported setting. Check Snapchat’s pinning and shortcuts help section when feature availability changes.
Conversation pins versus a Snapchat+ best friend
Snapchat+ includes a separate feature for pinning a friend as your number-one best friend. This is not the same instruction as Pin Conversation. Its subscription requirements and friendship display are described in Snapchat’s own Snapchat+ feature documentation.
Before following a tutorial, look at the name of the action being selected. “Pin Conversation” organizes the chat list. A best-friend pin belongs to a different feature. A saved message, meanwhile, concerns content within a chat. The similar wording can make videos seem contradictory even when they demonstrate different tasks.
If you only need a shortcut at the top of Chat on an iPhone, try the ordinary conversation pin before considering Snapchat+. Buying a subscription should be a deliberate choice for its listed features, not an attempt to repair a menu you have not identified.
Troubleshoot a missing or unexpected pin
First, count the conversations already pinned. If you reached the supported maximum, unpin one you no longer need and try the desired conversation again. Next, confirm you are using the iPhone app rather than a web interface or an Android device.
Then verify that you are pressing and holding from the Chat screen. Menu contents depend on where you press. Reopen Snapchat if the screen appears stuck, and check for an official app update if the interface is behaving inconsistently.
Do not clear a conversation, remove a friend or change message-deletion settings merely to refresh a pin. Those actions have different effects and can complicate a simple organizational task. If the supported pin action still fails, report the specific issue through Snapchat’s support options with your device and app version.
Frequently asked questions
Does someone know if I pin their Snapchat conversation?
Snapchat states that the other person is not notified when you pin a conversation. The pin is a way to organize your own Chat screen.
How many Snapchat conversations can I pin?
Snapchat documents a maximum of three pinned conversations. Unpin an older choice if you need room for a different friend or group.
Does unpinning remove someone as a friend?
Unpin Conversation changes the chat’s fixed position. It is a different control from removing or blocking a friend. Choose the exact action you intend.
Why does my friend have a pin option that I do not?
Compare the device platform, app version and feature being demonstrated. An ordinary iPhone conversation pin and a Snapchat+ best-friend pin are different features, and standard chat pinning is currently documented for iOS.
